...do the colors always seem wrong? They seem never to match perfectly? Whether you buy from the original manufacturer or purchased after market in a shop the paint repairs fail so badly?

The explanation is that touch up car paint is based on the manufacturers original paint pigments and thes pigments can alter over time. Possibly even with each batch of paint used in the manufacturing process of you vehicle.
For instance if you were to look at a popular colour for any make of car. You can find a subtle difference between one year and another (sometimes several times a year!)
Therefore if you were to line up ten cars that all look the same but were made several months apart They would only appear to be the same. But they wouldn't be!
If you were to spray the paint made for one vehicle onto another you would, at that point see a noticeable difference in shade.
This goes to explain why, when you purchase a touch up stick or aerosol can from a parts supplier, the results at a paint match can be so disappointing. The ever changing car paint can never really keep up to date with the continuous subtle change of colours
The shop simply cannot hold supplies for every variant of every colour. So they just keep one- possibly the first mix.
Now you see why use of a pre manufactured aerosols can be so scary if you make the mistake of not trying the colour in an inconspicuous area first.
