A quality motorcycle resale value...
...turns prestige cars resale values on their head. The Harley Davidson towers as a king of value retention — that’s for sure!
I was speaking with a friend of mine about motorcycle resale value. I knew he had just sold his beloved Harley Davidson which he had owned for some time. And I enquired — as you do — about just how much the motorcycle had lost in value over the years. What he told me came as a bit of a shock. He bought the Bike for £14,000. Now I thought I knew that bikes lost money faster than any car. But he sold it for £11,500 which I thought pretty amazing! Further — he told me that he was also considering buying a Japanese bike at the same time he actually purchased the Harley — The second choice machine was for sale for only £ 7500 — But he really wanted that Harley!
Hey, there just can’t be a better way to see the world.
He felt he would be unhappy with second best so shelled out about double the money to get what he really wanted.
Do you know, if he would have bought his second choice, he would have achieved only £3,500 on a resale!!
This turns the prestige cars resale value on its head.
As we all know, prestige cars lose a fortune in the first few years. It looks as if a prestige motorcycle resale value is actually better than cheaper models. Actually, it has to be said, a pretty good investment.
This week the Harley story continued.
I was working on a client´s car. I need electricity to work - and the garage is the best place to avoid the stink of paint fumes going into the clients house.
The garage door opened and sitting on a fully carpeted garage was a VERY SHINEY Harley.
“That´s the second Harley I have seen in a carpeted garage” — Said I.“ The other fellah had two Harley’s in his fully carpeted garage plus a very comfortable leather sofa, bike pictures on the walls and completed perfectly with a fridge for the beers!!”
As it turned out, not only did my client know the other Harley lover — he actually bought his bike from him!
What a small world.
I remember the two Harley man telling me - he not only rebuilt the machine — he actually owned the verysame motorcycle when he first started biking.
It looked like new
He saw his old Harley Davidson for sale. That’s right! The same machine he owned years ago.
He just had to buy it and make it like a new machine! Wow, it was perfect!
He started a labor of love rebuild.
That rebuilt bike is now worth MORE than he paid for it originally NEW.
I am now looking forward with some delight to the midlife crisis! Where I need to find an old leather biking jacket and dark glasses — and I think I know which make motorcycle I shall be looking for — I won’t be trying to find my old Honda to rebuild — that’s for sure!
