The glue dent puller is...
...generally used as a paintless dent remover and often unwisely used for do it yourself dent repair and some notes on dry ice dent repair.
do it yourself dent repair ?
The glue dent puller best known is made by Wurth as a paintless dent remover is based on the slide hammer principle used in bodyshops.
With a major ding the technique employed in the body shop is to drill a small hole, just enough to insert a rivet.
BUT the tail is not pulled of the rivet. Instead a slide hammer rather like the glue puller below is attached to the protruding tail and by moving the slide hammer around several positions on the repair the metal is slowly and surely pulled out to a position where a repair can be effected using the minimum body filler.

A great time saving idea because in hard to get areas it became possible to make a repair without the removal of a panel.
the disadvantage for the S.M.A.R.T. repair technician is that you might now have the panel perfect and now no longer need body filler but you were left with a panel resembling an colander!
Then along came the Wurth glue dent puller.
This revolutionized the industry for a time with virtually every body shop owning one. Here's another top tip you might actually pick up a real bargain by phoning your local dealer as there are quite a number collecting dust in various corners.
Now don't get me wrong, the Wurth glue puller is a great bit of kit but it takes a heck of a lot of time to learn how to use it effectively.
Body shop technicians were and are used to making the pull without the rivet parting company with the auto panel every time they used the slide hammer. This was the most frustrating aspect of the glue dent puller
The glue used is the same type as that used in a hot glue gun — there are various types of glue that you will be able to purchase where you live.
you will need to experiment with whatever glue sticks you have available to find the best for both grip, fast drying and you also need to think of outside air temperature which will change how the glue puller behaves during your repair.
Now, just like the Three bears
- you need the glue to be cool enough so it does not string the glue and end up doing b*gger all!>
- you need it warm enough to keep all the area of glue in contact with the panel — if its cold it will simply ping off the panel.>
- Right so even knowing this hasn’t put you off eh?>
- The process is as follows>
- plug in you glue gun>
- clean the panel with acetone or similar.>
- use a fine abrasive pad and put a mild 'key' where you will be pulling.>
- put on some gloves*.>
- choose a Wurth tab and apply the glue.>
- for a shallow dents get the tab exactly in the middle>
- use a stopwatch to time the setting time>
- allow to set enough to allow a pull>
- use the slide hammer of the glue dent puller start tapping the panel out>
- adjust timing of the setting glue to suit what has happened — if you don't time you will never get it right you will become bored and distracted and keep failing.>
- repeat with the glue dent puller until the panel is leveled>
- Please be very careful not to over pull or you will have a real nightmare on your hands — although the surface of your car should look interesting!>
the dry ice dent repair
I feel I have to mention the fairy tale wonder of the dry ice dent repair — this really is a source of great hilarity in the industry! Every time we here this story there is usually quite a lot of “Yeah, I just looked at that dent and it just Popped Right Out.”I don’t know how this dry ice repair stuff all started but it really is a cock and bull story. The dry ice dent repair has become the stuff of legend but no waking human being not on some sort of mind enhancing substance has ever seen it done.
My opinion is that it just sounds great so folk want it to be true.
Well, this ones not comedy — but it made me laugh :-) Return From glue dent puller To Car Care Auto Repair Home
